FDB Interoperability Module™

Enabling medication management interoperability.

As the adoption curve escalates for electronic health records, so does the need for the information contained within them to be accessible wherever care is delivered to the patient. The sharing and display of current patient medication information between multiple systems (e.g., patient portal, hospital, physician’s office) provides critical information needed to the provider and caregiver when coordinating care.

Interoperable drug knowledge is of vital importance to EHR adoption and effective EHR use as it supports the portability of patient medication, immunization, and allergy history among disparate healthcare information systems. Use of interoperable drug knowledge enables clinical information exchange, electronic prescribing, the calculation of clinical quality measures, immunization and medication allergen decision support, and streamlines clinical information reconciliation.

The FDB Interoperability Module™ Advantages:

  • Offers a full range of interoperable cross references between FDB MedKnowledge concepts to Federal Medication Terminologies (NLM® RxNorm, CVX/MVX, SNOMED CT®) to enable medication management interoperability
  • Supports EHR adherence to current and future regulatory requirements including the vocabulary interoperability requirements set forth in the EHR Certification 2014 Edition (formerly Meaningful Use Stage 2) Criteria
  • Resource efficiencies and clinical expertise from FDB clinical teams provide peace of mind as a single source for a variety of standard vocabulary concepts alleviates the cost, time and resource burden to research, monitor and gather information from external resources
