AHFS Drug Information Monographs

Providing an evidence-based foundation for safe and effective drug therapy.

The American Hospital Formulary Service® Drug Information (AHFS DI) from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists® (ASHP - www.ashp.org) provides an evidence-based foundation for safe and effective drug therapy. These full-text monographs have been officially designated as a federal standard on drug therapy, based on accepted medical practice, and are used by pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians in a wide range of healthcare environments. The monographs complement the proven screening data and clinical decision support information available in FDB MedKnowledge.

AHFS Drug Information Monographs Advantages:

  • Written for the professional, the AHFS DI monographs contain over 1,300 in-depth clinical drug descriptions on over 40,000 represented medications and virtually every single drug entity available in the United States.
  • Information provided: uses (including footnoted, off-label uses common in practice), specific dosage and administration information, cautions (including breakouts for side effects, identified by organ systems; precautions and contraindications; mutagenesis and carcinogenesis information; pregnancy and lactation data), drug interactions and adverse reactions, acute toxicity, preparations, chemistry and stability, mechanism of action, spectrum and resistance for antibiotics, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, professional references for each source, and referenced laboratory and test interferences.
  • To expedite implementation, FDB offers the AHFS Framework content-integration software. This set of application programming interface tools facilitates the assimilation of this content—and sophisticated full-text search capability—into the information system.
