York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust award finalists

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was shortlisted for BBH's Best Use of Technology (Acute Care) Award.

The Building Better Healthcare (BBH) Awards are in their 21st year and celebrate the innovation, architecture, people, products and services that are helping to transform patient care. Staff at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust were recognised for successful development of a bespoke electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) system and their move away from paper-based prescribing.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust chose to integrate FDB’s Multilex Clinical Decision Support into their newly developed ePMA solution and have reaped patient safety benefits ever since.

FDB Multilex is the UK’s leading clinical decision support solution and enables best practice and evidence-based prescribing, while supporting essential checks to aid clinicians. Multilex is used in a wide range of UK clinical systems, across primary and secondary care, and other healthcare settings. FDB also works directly with hospitals and healthcare providers to integrate its clinical decision support.

Patients and staff across York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have already started to feel the benefits of the new system, with some groups of staff feeding back that it makes their life easier by providing a way to prioritise the most vulnerable patients.

Alaya Khatun, ePMA Pharmacist at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust says: “We are absolutely delighted with this recognition. We worked so hard to produce our own system, and have received such good feedback.  Nurses particularly love the system. The system is now producing 19,000 prescriptions per week, 90,000 doses and 500 antimicrobial reviews every week.”
