FIRSTLight with a Refreshed Look and Feel – Designed with Healthcare Professionals in Mind
FIRSTLight is a trusted digital tool that helps healthcare professionals quickly find the medicines information they need, when they need it.
We sat down with Amy Smith, Secondary Care Market Manager at FDB, to discuss what’s new with the recently updated solution and how it’s supporting clinicians in making informed decisions more efficiently.
Can you give us an overview of FIRSTLight and what led to its redevelopment?
Amy: FIRSTLight has long been a trusted resource for busy healthcare professionals who need fast, reliable medicines guidance. We have updated it to better reflect the evolving needs of the NHS, supporting clinical workflows and decision-making through a cleaner, more intuitive design.
How is the new version different from the original?
Amy: The updated FIRSTLight functions as a comprehensive digital medicines compendium. We’ve refreshed the interface and improved the search experience to help users reach the right information more quickly, including the ability to search directly by product ID. This makes it easier to locate specific products without unnecessary navigation. Monthly updates ensure the content remains current, and the design reflects real-world clinical use across a range of care healthcare settings.
Who is FIRSTLight designed for?
Amy: FIRSTLight is designed for a wide range of healthcare professionals. Whether working independently or as part of a wider organisation, users can access clear, reliable medicines information quickly. Organisations can also integrate FIRSTLight into their systems to support existing workflows, while compatibility with partner platforms helps extend access across the care continuum.
What’s behind the innovation in the new FIRSTLight?
Amy: Practical innovation underpins the update. From enriched clinical content to seamless integration with clinical systems, every element has been designed around the realities of modern healthcare. Whether you’re checking administration routes, contraindications, or reproductive safety, the information is structured to be quick to access, clear to interpret and clinically reliable.
